When asked the question why I contine to paint Elizabeth Park, my answer is wrapped in Her magic. This park holds hidden treasures. I could come here everyday and discover something new, especially when the rose garden is in full bloom and Her beauty is so bountiful. But there are other gardens and times I savor as well, like the annual, perennial and rock gardens. There's a little known woodland garden planted for early spring and very nearby, a secret little rose garden. Then there's the greenhouse, the pond with all of its wildlife, the different lighting conditions, and of course, the change of seasons. One very romantic client commissioned me to come out at sunrise in the midst of winter to photograph, then later paint, the gazebo where he had proposed to the love of his life. It looked like an ancient temple covered not in green leaves, but in a blanket of sunlit snow. So you see? I'm really a treasure hunter. My job as an artist is to capture some of these fleeting moments and record them for others to enjoy too. Elizabeth Park has cast Her spell on me. It's powerful magic. I'll always come back here for inspiration. |
